Intestinal iron uptake in the European flounder (Platichthys flesus) Bury, N. R., Grosell, M., Wood, C. M., Hogstrand, C., Wilson, R. W., Rankin, J. C., Busk, M., Lecklin, T. and Jensen, F. B. (2001). J. Exp. Biol. 204, 3779-3787
In the printed version of this paper, the concentration of the artificial intestinal saline was given incorrectly in the Materials and methods. The correct composition of this saline is (in mmol l1): Na+, 50; K+, 5; Mg2+, 100; Ca2+, 5; Cl, 109; SO42, 77.5; HCO3, 1; pH 7.88.0.
The composition of artificial plasma saline was correct.
The last sentence of the first paragraph of the Materials and methods section should thus read:
On the basis of a detailed analysis of blood plasma and intestinal fluid (M. Grosell, C. M. Wood, N. R. Bury, C. Hogstrand, J. C. Rankin, R. W. Wilson, and F. B. Jensen, unpublished data), artificial salines were made to concentrations (in mmol l) of, for intestinal saline, Na+, 50; K+, 5; Mg2+, 100; Ca2+, 5; Cl, 109; SO42, 77.5; HCO3, 1; pH 7.88.0, and for plasma saline, Na+, 149; K+, 5; Mg2+, 0.9; Ca2+, 1.6; Cl, 142.3; SO42, 0.9; PO43, 3; HCO3, 11.9; glucose, 5.6.
