Lateral view of Rana pipiens swallowing a cricket. Swallowing involves movements of the head, hyobranchial apparatus, jaws, tongue and eyes. Notice that eye retraction is rapid, the eyes remain retracted for a relatively long time, and that eye protraction is slower than eye retraction.
