About the Cover
Cover: A rainbow trout swims between two laser light sheets used for visualizing wake structures behind the dorsal and anal fins. Steady swimming kinematics show a phase lag between dorsal and anal fin maximum excursion (solid lines), as would be expected due to their position along the fish's oscillating body. However, hydrodynamic analysis shows minimal phase lag between jets released by dorsal and anal fins (arrows). The two fins release jets at different points in their oscillating cycle, thus helping reduce rolling instabilities during swimming. See article by E. M. Standen and G. V. Lauder, pp. 325−339.
