About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: Polarized light reflections based on photonic structures are often prone to changes in incidence angles. Equipped with flexible arms, the cuttlefish and squids have found their ways to produce reliable polarization body patterns no matter what their gestures are (see article by T.-H. Chiou et al., pp. 3624−3635). The cover illustration shows a frontal view of a cuttlefish Sepia officinalis, showing the iridescent-blue-colored 'pink iridophore armstripes' in real color (top) and the degree of polarization coded in false-color (bottom).
